A spray ball is a tank-cleaning device that distributes CIP fluid through drilled openings to wet internal vessel surfaces and remove residual product without manual scrubbing. A fixed design suits tanks that need repeatable 180° or 360° coverage, while its simple geometry avoids moving parts that can complicate inspection and maintenance.

Fixed Spray Coverage Starts With the Cleaning Pattern

A sanitary spray ball is selected according to tank geometry, soil load, spray pattern, flow rate, pressure, and required coverage. The fixed female-thread configuration uses SS304 or SS316L, supports 0.5–2.5 in. or DN15–DN65 connections, and provides a stated cleaning radius of 1.0–3.5 m. Its spray openings can provide 360° coverage or 180° coverage, with a 2.5 mm aperture.

For a tank with straightforward internal geometry, a stationary head can provide predictable liquid distribution across the wetted surface. The cleaning effect depends on sufficient flow and pressure to produce useful impingement; selecting coverage from tank diameter alone can therefore produce weak cleaning at shadowed areas or excessive flow at already-wet surfaces.

Fixed and Rotary Cleaning Solve Different Problems

A rotary spray ball uses the cleaning fluid to drive rotation, creating a moving spray pattern across the vessel wall. That approach can increase dynamic coverage when tanks contain baffles, agitators, or difficult-to-reach surfaces. A fixed head remains suitable where a simple stationary spray pattern meets the cleaning requirement and low mechanical complexity is preferred.

Selection factor Design check Cleaning implication
Tank dimensions Diameter, height, internal fittings Determines required coverage
Soil condition Residue type and adhesion Sets cleaning intensity
CIP supply Flow rate and pressure Influences impact and wetting
Connection Thread size and orientation Affects installation fit
Wetted material 304 or 316L stainless steel Supports material compatibility
Surface finish Mirror or matt finish Affects cleanability and residue retention

Female Thread and Material Fit

A stainless steel spray ball should match the cleaning chemistry, temperature, connection arrangement, and required surface condition. The available mirror or matt finish provides another selection variable for the wetted surface. Standards such as 3A, SMS, DIN, ISO, and RJT are also available for this fixed cleaning ball configuration.

For practical selection, the cleaning cycle should be checked as a complete system rather than treating the spray device as an isolated component. The spray pattern, tank internals, pump capacity, pressure loss, mounting position, and drainage path all influence the final result. A correctly matched spray ball can provide repeatable CIP coverage while keeping construction and inspection straightforward.
